Facility Control and Maintenance
Mice intended for export are housed in our barrier facilities. Access to the facilities are strictly limited to trained laboratory and animal care personnel by key card access. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for entry into the facility which includes disposable gowns, shoe covers, gloves, hair bonnet and masks. Animal care personnel are dedicated to the facility and/or room. Animals are housed and maintained in positive-pressure, individually ventilated cages/units (IVC/U) which are changed every 1-2 weeks. Mice are provided with corncob bedding and paper nest enrichment and receive irradiated feed. All caging, bedding and enrichment are autoclaved prior to use. Processed water (reverse osmosis, chlorinated) is supplied by an Edstrom automatic watering system. Animals leaving the barrier cannot return to the facility.

Importing Animals
For imports, only specific pathogen free (SPF) animals are accepted and must be rederived and tested prior to release into the barrier. These animals are quarantined in isolators, and samples (including hair, feces or serology samples) of the received mice are submitted to GemPharmatech (GPT) microbial testing center. Animals can only be transported to the breeding animal rooms by cesarean section or embryo transfer once passing microbial tests.
